piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2013: Celebrating the Year of the Blogger

Hello, beauties!  Well… the cat’s out of the bag!!  I’m so excited to finally share with you all that I’ve been chosen to participate in this year’s piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2013!  It’s been a secret up until now, and it’s now time for all the participants around the world to share their posts! So much fun and so so exciting!

This year’s Blog Fest theme is all about nail art.  We were all given three random piCture pOlish colors to use and create nail art with.  The three colors sent to me were Jealousy, Starry Night, and Flirt .  Jealousy is a green glitter polish that is literally full coverage at one coat.  Simply gorgeous.  Flirt is a berry pink creme that is, again, opaque in one coat and super glossy.  Starry Night is a black jelly with holographic micro glitters.  I really had fun with this!  It was actually quite challenging to come up with something that was worthy of posting for such an amazing opportunity, yet reflected my own personal style, all the while using only the three colors chosen for me.  I must have tried five different times!

In the end, I love how the final design came out.  It’s a fun, yet easy design that anyone can do with a little practice.  I’m going to add a few pictures and the steps I did to get this look.  I feel like it’s too easy to even call a tutorial, but let’s go through the few steps I took to create this look!

First off, I painted my base colors using Starry Night and Jealousy.  I decided to do a striped design over Starry Night with Flirt.  All I used for this is a thin, long nail art brush and a steady hand.  Flirt was perfect for this because it has such a rich, bold color.  It showed up well over the black.  I started off make a diagonal line across my nail and made a few stripes that way across half the nail, and then made more stripes going perpendicular to those on the other half.  Just to be wild and crazy, I switched up the directions on the other nail.

I used Jealousy on the middle and ring fingers as “accents,” if you will.  I chose to use studs on top because the green glitter was just so beautiful that I wanted that to show through anything I added to it.  The simple studs did the job.  I used charcoal metal studs in various shapes and sizes and attached with top coat.  This is something anyone can do.  You just place them on your nail and it instantly makes it look fancy!  I messed around with them on paper first to figure out how I wanted them placed, but it’s as as simple as that!
